After school ended, we went on a mini-road trip to explore a bit north of the bay. We started by going to Point Reyes station and visiting some friends and experiencing the Western Days parade.
After fun in the very hot sun, we headed up to Fort Bragg. We settled into our lodge, got a seafood dinner down at the wharf, and then Arne and I went exploring town during the foggy evening.
The next day, we headed over to the Skunk Train, for our adventure on the tracks. We were going on electronic assisted Rail Bikes. We headed up to the same stopping point as the train, a tunnel had collapsed, so you cannot go very far, and then explored the forest.
After the ride, we explored town. There was a great model train display.
A giant cut redwood.
And a store with amazing fossils. Liam loved the trilobite.
After a morning adventure, Arne went to the Botanical Gardens to explore beautiful flowers and plants.
Then, in the evening we headed to the famous Glass Beach, to check out the ocean and all the sea glass.
After a great dinner, Arne and I walked down to the beach to watch the sunset.
The next morning, we headed down to Mendocino and Big River, where we headed out on special outrigger canoes. We canoed up the old logging river. It was a very beautiful and peaceful place and fun to travel along with the river otters, sea lions and birds.
That afternoon, we headed to the beach to play with Liam's remote control car, and then play in the sand and surf.
We also got to check out the famous trestle bridge.
Then next morning, Liam and I explored the beach.
Then we headed out and stopped first in Ukiah, and the famous Vishay Springs Resort, where Jack London and Mark Twain would "take the waters." We enjoyed the waters, in the same stone bathes they used.
This was restful before our next stop at Safari West. Our first adventure was a safari!
Arne was a master of taking great pictures of the animals. We then headed to our cabin for a night on the safari.
It was fun to get to hear the animals through the night. The next morning we headed toward home, stopping in Petaluma to visit with my Aunts - Jan and Sherry.
We had a great little adventure to start off our summer.
